Event Overview
The annual Christmas Pie Sale is a beloved holiday tradition in Saranac Lake that has been raising funds for the club for over 30 years. Held on the Saturday of the week before Christmas, this event brings members and the community together to share homemade baked goods, enjoy seasonal favorites, and support the Saranac Lake Fish & Game Club.
All baked goods are homemade by club members, and the sale highlights a wide variety of pies and other treats made with care and local tradition in mind.
Event Highlights
- Annual Christmas Pie Sale — a community holiday tradition
- Homemade pies, cakes, cookies, stollen, and more
- Premium pricing for favorite pies, including berry, fruit, mincemeat, and coconut cream
- Event hosted at Coakley’s Home & Hardware in Saranac Lake
- Community members and club volunteers both participate every year
Participation & Volunteer Info
Club members are encouraged to contribute homemade baked goods for the sale. Members who cannot bake are asked to attend the sale and support the event by purchasing goods on the day of the sale. Volunteers help by calling members in advance, bringing baked items to the sale site, and assisting with sales and logistics on event day.
Typical volunteer needs include:
- Four callers to contact membership about bake goods two weeks before the event
- 4–6 members to help run the sale on event day, usually in shifts
The sale depends on the support of the membership and the quality baking our community is known for. Berry and fruit pies are perennial favorites, and specialty items like mincemeat (please indicate beef or venison) and coconut cream also draw strong interest. Some bakers are known for specialties such as monster cookies or sugarless treats for diabetics.
Rules & Regulations
To keep the sale true to its tradition:
- All baked items must be homemade. Any store-bought goods (including pies) will not be included in the sale.
- Bakers are responsible for bringing and labeling their items appropriately.
- Members selling goods should arrive within the specified check-in window (8:30–10:00 AM).
- Standard food-safety practices are encouraged when preparing items for sale.
Additional Notes
- Prices vary by item and type of baked good. Large berry and fruit pies often sell for premium prices.
- This event is a social highlight and a fundraiser; proceeds go toward club needs.
